Welcome to Fitnes Stips, where we’re all about unique and easy vegetarian recipes that anyone can cook.
I know what it feels like to be bored and clueless in the kitchen; you want to eat more vegetarian but don’t know what to cook, so you settle for the same few things every week. Sound familiar? Well together we’re going to take on this lack of inspiration and create something delicious!
Here’s how it works
Every two weeks we choose a featured ingredient. Carrots, quinoa, coffee, you name it! We’ll start by diving into the basics of that ingredient; how to cook it, different variations, when it’s in season, you get the gist.
About the author
Oh, and I’m Sarah Bond! I’m the blogger behind all the easy vegetarian recipes here on Fitnes Stips. I graduated from Penn State with a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Nutrition, then kept that wild love of food going by earning my Master’s Degree in Sensory Science (essentially the study of food as it relates to the senses). Put simply, I just love food.
And I love popsicles! So much so that I wrote a cookbook all about them called For the Love of Popsicles 😋
When I’m not making or thinking about food, I’m probably out in the foothills of Denver, skiing or hiking with my pup, Rhubarb. Here are some more very important things:
Things I like always: Cereal for dinner, travel, efficiency, thrift shopping, campfires, writing in cursive
Things I like sometimes: Doing yoga, roller coasters, frozen grapes
Things I like never: Peanut butter, vacuuming, organizing my tupperware cabinet, going to bed early, water parks, lasagna, loud noises
Inspiration behind Fitnes Stips
The lives, eats, and learns on the blog are inspired by so much, like the time I lived on a ship for 4 months, or the time I survived on Red Bull for a week. But generally speaking, my major inspirations are:
Nutrition: I love nutrition so much I got a degree in it, so I’m always aiming for lightness and health in my cooking. With the exception of some of my earlier posts, the recipes on this blog are vegetarian, with a majority being vegan as well.
Minimalism: I don’t have room for hundreds of ingredients, I don’t have patience for elaborate steps, and I don’t have money for fancy gadgets.
My Mama’s Cooking: Moderation, seasonality, and wine.
My Grandpa’s Cooking: There’s always room for dessert.
How do you know about food?
My Bachelor’s in Nutrition opened me up to the world of cooking and health, but I realized I was cooking the same things every week. So I started Fitnes Stips with the hopes of breaking from my inspiration-less norms. Plunging myself into new ingredients every week, along with eventually studying for my Master’s in Sensory Science, taught me everything I know and love about food!
How do you shoot your photos?
I shoot everything with my trusty Nikon d810. Most of the food photos are with my first true love, the 50mm 1.8, though my new (well, refurbished) Tamron 24 -70mm 2.8 is quickly becoming my go-to for all things food and travel. And sometimes when I’m feeling artsy I play around with a macro. Lighting is 99.99% natural and editing is all in Lightroom and Photoshop.
